
122. " B. Mills" Marked Single Shot Rifle with Remington Made Barrel. Caliber .40-90 Everlasting. Strong bore with lots of rifling. Original 31.5" full octagon barrel. "Remington" is stamped on a lower flat near the breech. Fairly heavy barrel measures 15/16" across the barrel flats at the muzzle. Quite nice overall condition. Metal is fairly smooth and the finish is a dark plum brown patina. Fairly large trigger guard with a finger rest. Straight grip checkered butt stock has highly figured deluxe quality walnut- stock was cracked at some time and now has a well done solid repair. Fancy crescent butt plate. Silver escutcheon inlaid in stock. Original silver blade front and rigid buckhorn rear sights. Sellers' " American Gunsmiths" book lists B. Mills in Lexington, Kentucky from 1865-1889. Very Interesting rifle. Antique.
